The best learning experiences stimulate all five senses. But of those five senses, vision, may be the most important one for education. Did you know that around 80% of the learning materials kids encounter in school are presented visually? Not only that, but a child’s eyesight can impact basic but fundamental skills like walking or talking. By scheduling regular eye exams for your kids, you can make sure they have everything they need to experience the world and succeed.
Your kids should have their first eye exam at six months old; that way, we can make sure their eyesight is healthy enough to facilitate their growth and development. After that, they should have their eye examined annually, especially once they reach school-age.

When the eyeball is too long in proportion to the curve of the cornea, it causes a condition called myopia, also known as nearsightedness. When kids have myopia, they have a hard time seeing objects that are far away, like the whiteboard in their classroom. Although myopia is becoming more and more common in kids, it’s easily diagnosed through an eye exam.
Amblyopia, otherwise known as a lazy eye, is common in kids. When the eyes are working properly, the brain gets one clear picture. But when the brain gets an individual picture from each eye, it gets confused, and eventually, shuts one off to simplify the process. The eye that isn’t being used moves off into a direction that’s different from the working eye.
Amblyopia can be caused by a variety of things, including myopia and muscle weakness, but it can usually be diagnosed through a simple eye exam.
